We spent the last few weeks of the school year focused on Bug life and gardens. We read through The World of Pooh with a special interest in the honey bees and decided to create some hives of our own. I am not a master craftswomen so this style of paper maiche was right up my alley; no shaping required.
Step one: Blow up balloons for hives. 1 balloon equals 1 hive.
Step Two: Tear up strips of paper (this is an excellent time to say good-bye to the myriad of pictures covering your fridge)
Step Three: Mix white glue with water (2:1 Ratio)
Step Four: Coat papers, one by one, with glue mixture. SKim off excess mixture and attach to the balloon until you have a multi-layered shell.
Step Five: Let Hives dry, ours took a couple days. Use this time to cut bee shapes from yellow construction paper.
Step Six: Decorate bees with markers and assorted trinkets.
Step Seven: When the hive is dry, place or toss bees inside and count as you go.
