“Little Kitchen Table”

Ever since I can remember, I have been one of those people who gets excited for the first day of school. The smell of new books and fresh notebooks without a single scribble in them, just bursting with possibility. I love the crispness of fall air and the new dreams waiting to unfold. As I have aged, the only change is that the school year has become about my children.

It is me getting to instill in them a love of learning and the opportunity to grow alongside them as I hone in on their interests. It is the joy of seeing little faces light up as they understand a new concept and encouraging them through their struggles. I love getting to have my children learning at home this year, which is why I am so excited to partner with my friend, Josie, at Little Kitchen Table to share with you these amazing educational supplies.

Josie offers a wide variety of laminated Velcro puzzles for Preschool or Kindergarten age children. I recently received two of her booklets for my kiddos (ages 2 and 4) and we have been making frequent use of them for our studies. The booklets include; a page with the child’s name, size line-up puzzles to work on comparison, alphabet match- up, counting pages, color selection, and options for dress-up puzzles, Spanish words, animal matches, or construction site fun. The booklets explore the concepts of opposites, comparison, and direction in a hands-on way that is engaging for young learners.

My son toted his book around for the first couple days, calling it his laptop and paying special attention to the arrows on the directions page. This has been one of our main concepts through the summer and he loved getting to line them up and share his growth with me.

The size and structure of the booklets makes them easily portable and we have been able to indulge in outdoor lessons while soaking up the last of the summer sun.

My children really enjoyed the color sort pages and anatomy page. The arrows were a new concept for my two-year old and I was able to encourage her attention to detail through placing the pictures alongside her.

This idea for further learning came from my son. We took the pictures from the color sort pages and sorted them out by their beginning sound. These type of hands-on puzzle activities work so well for my boy and I can’t wait to use this book more as the year progresses.
